Rainbow Child Care Center Celebrates Summer with Mobile Science Lab

Rainbow Child Care Center (Rainbow), a provider of academic-focused, early-childhood education with more than 120 centers across 12 states, recently celebrated its annual Summer Social with local families and special guest, Clarity Newhouse, professional race car driver.

Families that attended the event at Rainbow’s center in Walker, enjoyed interacting with Newhouse and getting an up-close look at her race car. Doubling as a Mobile Science Lab, Newhouse’s race car provided young students an opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering and math during a fun, hands-on science lesson.

Sun Title Opens New Grandville Office in Bustling Commercial Corridor

Sun Title Agency, one of Michigan’s leading title and real estate transaction coordination companies, announced today the opening of the company’s new Grandville office in a converted, 3,000 sq. ft. space at 4600 Ivanrest. The transformed space replaces the company’s current location at 4693 Wilson Ave SW.

The converted space, which was formally a residential home, will accommodate as many as six employees. The new office will focus on providing commercial and residential title insurance and closing services and allows the company to expand its presence in the Grandville community.

Thursday nights, the Kentwood City Hall lawn comes alive with concerts & movies through the summer months.

The community is invited to bring a blanket or lawn chairs and your own beverages to experience family-friendly entertainment every Thursday evening at 4900 Breton SE. A variety of food trucks will also be present.

East Kentwood High School Band Students Receive Honors

Three East Kentwood High School music students were chosen to perform at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival May 12-14, 2016. They participated in a three-day extravaganza of master classes, exhibitions, workshops and performances at Western Michigan University with students from throughout the state of Michigan.

Jared Hazen (oboe) was selected to perform in the MYAF Honors Orchestra. Students are selected for this group as a result of their solo rating at the State Solo & Ensemble festival.

Timothy Long (drums) and Matthew Noorman (bass) were selected for the honors jazz band as a result of outstanding performances at the State Jazz Festival. A panel of judges selected the top 20 students for the Honors Jazz Ensemble based on their performances. The following students received an honorable mention for jazz band: Andrew Riebs – trombone, Danny Belay – trumpet, and Herold Correa – tenor saxophone.

The State Park in Grand Haven comes to life with incredible kite performances this weekend. Don’t miss the fun!

For the 28th year, the world’s best kite flyers - individuals, pairs & teams will be performing continuously on Saturday, May 21 from 10am – 5pm & Sunday, May 22 from 11am – 5pm.

Kite enthusiast and their families are invited to experience different size kites with amazing capabilities controlled by professional kite handlers. There will also be an Open Flying Field to fly your own kite.

Kentwood Pride Day - Community Clean Up on Saturday

The City of Kentwood invites residents to take part in this community-wide cleanup effort.

Between the hours of 8:00am & 2:00pm on May 7, 2016, Kentwood residents with picture Id’s are encouraged to drop off appropriate items at the Kentwood Recycling Center located a 5068 Brenton Avenue. Residents should enter the drive off Breton Avenue and volunteers will assist & approve disposal items.

The Salvation Army will be available to help with your gently used donations, along with Comprenew to assist with electronic waste (fax machines, computers, mobile telephones and other items will be accepted at no charge). CRT screens will not be accepted and need to be dropped off directly at any Comprenew location.

The Kent County Department of Public Works will be available to accept hazardous waste items but not latex paint. Yard Waste and Tires are not, Accepted!
