Kentwood police: Man exposes himself to woman on sidewalk

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) -- Kentwood police are looking for the man accused of exposing himself to a woman Monday afternoon.

Just before 3 o'clock, officers were called to the area of Heathwood and West Grove, a little southwest of the East Paris Ave. SE & 52nd St. intersection.

A woman there told police she'd been walking on the sidewalk when a completely naked man exposed himself to her. She described him as white, heavyset, with brown hair, and in his late 20's or early 30's.

The woman ran away. Police said it was reported the suspect may have driven away in a black Toyota.

1 person taken to hospital after being hit by car

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) -- One person is hospitalized after being hit by a car on 28th Street in Kentwood, Saturday night.

The accident happened at 8:41 p.m. between Patterson Ave. and E. Paris Ave.  

Kentwood Police say the vehicle was going west on 28th Street when it hit a 21-year-old woman, who was crossing the road. 

The woman was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. The driver was not hurt.

Man, 42, in critical condition after being hit

Update: Police identified the man as Amir Zahidic of Grand Rapids. He remains in critical condition as of Tuesday, Jan. 12.

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) -- A man was hit while crossing the street Saturday evening.

The victim, identified as a 41-year-old man, was crossing 29th Street just east of Shaffer Avenue when a passing car hit him, according to a Kentwood Police Department news release.

The collision happened around 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9.

Paramedics took the man to a Grand Rapids-area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle was not injured, police say.

Cancellations, delays at Gerald R. Ford airport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Holiday travel started to slow down Monday afternoon when the Gerald R. Ford International Airport reported mounting delays and cancellations due to bad weather sweeping across the middle of the country and into West Michigan.

Over a dozen arriving and departing flights at GRR were cancelled by 3 p.m., according to the airport's website.

Anyone flying Monday or Tuesday should stay in touch with his or her airline and confirm the flight status before heading to the airport.

West Mich. group goes for board game record

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) -- A group in Kentwood is trying to set a record for the longest time playing a board game.

They're at Out of the Box, a board game store on South Division Ave. near 52nd St.

They're planning to play for 62 hours; they started at 8 o'clock Monday morning and intend to keep going until Wednesday night around 10 o'clock.

The game they're playing is called Descent: Journeys in the Dark. It's similar to Dungeons and Dragons.

Gym donates hats, gloves and toys to Glenwood Elementary

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) -- Children at a school in Kentwood received a generous donation on Wednesday.

Blues Boxing Gym in Grand Rapids donated hats, gloves and toys to kids at Glenwood Elementary.

When asked why they were doing this, their answer was very simple.

" It feels good to give back. As good as it feels to receive a present, it feels even better to give one." said Kevin Masters of Blues Gym.

Blues Boxing Gym is a non profit gym that looks to provide a safe haven for kids in the neighborhood.
They are located on Kalamazoo Avenue, just north of 44th Street in Grand Rapids.

Drunk driver hospitalized in Kentwood crash

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM)-- A drunk driver is in critical condition after slamming her car into minivan.

Kentwood Police responded to the accident just after 11 Saturday night. They say the 20-year-old Cascade woman was driving east on 36th St. when she ran a red light at East Paris Avenue. She hit a minivan going south on East Paris.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles. They were both taken to Butterworth Hospital. The 20-year-old is in critical condition. The 55-year-old female minivan driver from Hastings is in serious but stable condition.

The drivers names are not being released at this time.

Police say alcohol did play a factor in this crash.
