KENTWOOD, Mich.-- Kentwood Public Schools is pleased to announce that three students earned a place in the All-State Orchestra and Band. 

These students performed with the All-State groups in DeVos Hall at the Michigan Music Conference.   They were selected from among more than 2,000 students who auditioned.

Claire Ross, a senior at East Kentwood High School, earned the first chair horn position in the All-State Orchestra.  Claire is principal horn in the East Kentwood High School Wind Ensemble under the direction of Mr. James Ross.  Claire studies privately with Erich Peterson, assistant principal horn in the Grand Rapids Symphony.  Claire is also principal horn in the Spartan Youth Wind Symphony at Michigan State University and Grand Rapids Youth Symphony.  

Andy Bui, a senior violinist from East Kentwood High School, was also selected for the All-State Orchestra.    Andy shares the concert master position in the East Kentwood High School Symphony Orchestra.  His orchestra director is Ms. Ingrid Dykeman.  He is a member of Grand Rapids Youth Symphony.  He has earned several top ratings for solos and quartets at the district and state level. 

The All-State High School Orchestra performed in DeVos Hall under the direction of Kevin Noe, Director of Orchestras at Michigan State University.

Pinewood Middle School 8th grade student Carter Harris was selected to perform in the Middle School All-State Band.  Carter plays baritone saxophone in the 8th grade band at Pinewood Middle School under the direction of Dr. James Sawyer.  He plays baritone sax in the Pinewood Jazz Band.  Carter also swims with Kentwood Aquatic Club.  The Middle School All-State Band performed under the direction of William Owens.  William Owens currently teaches instrumental music in the Everman, Texas Independent School District.
