Congratulatons to Cameron Gouin on winning the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony Skip Gates Concerto Competition.  The Grand Rapids Youth Symphony holds this contest every year for Youth Symphony and Classical Orchestra.  One student from each group is picked to perform a solo concerto with that group at the May concert in DeVos Performance Hall.  Cameron will be performing Vivaldi's G Major Concerto, first movement, with the Grand Rapids Classical Orchestra.  The public is encouraged to attend to concert at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 3rd, in DeVos Performance Hall, 303 Monroe Ave., NW, Grand Rapids.

Cameron is a 7th grade student at Pinewood Middle School in Kentwood.  He plays the violin with the Pinewood Middle School 7th Grade Orchestra, and on occasion, the East Kentwood Anythng But Classical Orchestra.  Eric Hudson is his orchestra teacher.  Violin lessons wth Cassandra Kroondyk, a Suzuki teacher at Grand Rapids Community College, began just before he turned four years old.  Later, he switch to Christie Wiersma at Meyer Musc.  Each year for the past five years he has attended Blue Lake Suzuki Camp.  Most recently, he has been studying wth Dr. Gregory Maytan, a violin professor at Grand Valley State University.

Cameron has played in the Concert Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra at St. Cecilia Music Society, and is currently Assistant Principal violin in the Concert Orchestra section with the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony.

When Cameron is not playing the violin, you will fnd him on the soccer field enjoying his other passion, soccer.  He plays in te Alliance Football Club.
