Umphrey's McGee Comes Back to Grand Rapids

Umphrey's McGee Comes Back to Grand Rapids

Written by Jon Miller

Last summer, Umphrey's McGee made its first appearance at Fredrik Meijer Gardens and surprised audiences that were perhaps more used to adult contemporary tunes as opposed to electro jam ones.

The Chicago-based band is returning to Grand Rapids this summer. This time, it will headline the Orbit Room, where it has played twice before, in 2007 and 2009.

Umphrey's drummer Kris Myers says the energy from the Midwest crowds is second to none.

"Midwest shows are excellent because the fan base is so hungry and they're so receptive. Some of the best crowds in the country are in the Midwest."

During last summer's show, Umphrey's played a variety of songs off of past albums. Staples such as "Nothing too Fancy," "2x2" and "Bright Lights, Big City" were featured, along with a cover of Bob Seger's "Night Moves." This time around, Myers promises a mix of old and new material.
