Leadership Training Programs at Davenport University

Managers of all levels are invited to participate in the “Leadership for Performance” and “Finance for the Non-Financial Manager” training programs provided by Davenport University. These 2-day programs will advance participants’ abilities to lead others, get tasks accomplished and acquire their organizations results.

The Leadership Performance program takes place on November 18 & 19 from 8:30am – 4:30pm and the Finance for the Non-Financial Manager program takes place on December 2 & 3 from 8:30am - 4:30pm. Both training programs will take place at the Davenport’s Peter C. Cook Center located at 45 Ottawa NW in Grand Rapids.

Todd Wenzel announced today that they have purchased the 29th Street property where they will begin remodeling the 34,000 square foot building to house their Collision and Appearance Center; currently located at Todd Wenzel Buick GMC on 28th Street. The dealer group plans to also move their centralized Business Development Center or BDC to the second floor of the building. By relocating the current body shop to 2700 29th St., Todd Wenzel Buick GMC will be able to improve the dealership’s quality of customer service and increase work flow. “We have recognized for some time now that our Buick and GMC business is greatly expanding and the 28th St. facility is bursting at the seams,” Wenzel said, “This expansion will provide much needed relief and allow for additional mechanical service growth.

WALKER, Mich.—  A Walker-based retail store is hiring thousands more workers ahead of the holiday season.

Meijer recently announced it plans to hire more than 10,000 additional employees for stores in five states. Nearly half of the new hires, approximately 4,800 people, will happen in Michigan. The additional employees are needed to cover duties newly opened stores, as well as the upcoming busy holiday shopping season.  Meijer opened or is opening nine new stores in 2014; the retailer plans to open additional locations in 2015.

The openings will be for a variety of positions, from cashiers to meat cutting.  The majority of positions will be part time and seasonal.  Interested candidates can apply online on Meijer’s website

Meijer currently operates 213 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.— A life-saving donation could get you a new look.

The American Red Cross is teaming up with Sport Clips to provide coupons for free haircuts to those who sign up to donate blood at participating drives and blood donation centers.  The campaign, called “Saving Lives Never Looked So Good”, runs through the month of September at the Sports Clips locations at Knapps Corner, Shops at Plaza on the East Beltline, in Grandville and the Kenowa Center.

My Town Kentwood: Senior living community expanding

KENTWOOD, Mich.--  A senior living community is expanding in Kentwood.

Holland Home will break ground on a new rehabilitation center and memory care assisted living center late this month.  The work will take place at Holland Home’s Breton Rehabilitation & Living Centre off 44th Street.

The multi-million dollar project includes expanding the rehabilitation gym, adding a state-of-the-art equipment for therapy, as well as constructing a 15-bed, single-story private living space for people with conditions affecting their memory.

The project is expected to create 10 to 15 new jobs. The new space should open late next year.

Breton Rehabilitation & Living Centre was voted one of the 100 best nursing homes in the country by “U.S. News & World Report” and is rated five stars by Medicare Compare.
