Chamber prepares for the annual end of summer event

Wyoming-Kentwood, MI (January 12, 2011) – The annual event has grown through the years to over 300,000 visitors and over 15,000 vehicles. Last year, with beautiful weather, the event hosted record breaking numbers. Organizers are looking for an even larger turnout this year. There has been momentum within the 28th Street merchants’ community to increase event participation. Many of the businesses are reaching out to the visitors and welcoming them with specials, activities and event oriented activities. The Metro Cruise® was started as a method of helping businesses along the 28th Street corridor when highway M-6 opened.

This year’s venues are currently under development.

New Library Opens in Kentwood

Are you aware that Kentwood has opened a new library at 4950 Breton Ave SE, that is a branch of the Kent District Library? The new building became possible as a result of a positive vote on a bond by the taxpayers of Kentwood. This large area of 43,000 square feet is here for your learning and relaxing environment.

The library consists of a modern and enlarged community room, a play area for children, an expanded computer area, a teen area and an Entrepreneurial Center.

Hours for the library are 9:30am to 8:00pm Monday thru Thursday and 9:30am to 5:00pm on Friday and Saturday and Sundays, but only during the school year, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

Northeast Park in Kentwood

Northeast Park in the northeastern part of Kentwood is somewhat of an unknown gem. The park has several playgrounds for the kids to enjoy. There is also a walking nature trail that goes through the woods and marshes with stops at a couple of ponds. And of course, don't forget the soccer and baseball fields.

Northeast Park is somewhat tricky to find because it is back in a neighborhood. It is located off of Forest Lake Drive, which is off Forest Hills Ave.
