Prepare for backups! MDOT releases 2013 project schedule

(Michigan Department of Transportation) -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $100 million in the MDOT Grand Region in 2013 to improve 191 route miles of roadway and 25 bridges.

In addition, $93 million of statewide funding is planned for the construction of the new M-231 route and connections in Ottawa County. MDOT's Grand Region transportation system includes all I, US and M routes in the following eight counties: Ionia, Kent, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana and Ottawa.

"There is much to be done and this year’s program strategically addresses maintaining our system and improving operations," said MDOT Region Engineer Roger Safford.

Fundraiser To Help Rebuild Burned Church

Fundraiser To Help Rebuild Burned Church

Last summer, St. Mary Magdalen Church was destroyed by fire. Now, the church is moving forward with its plans to rebuild, and church members are doing their part to raise the money.

Next month, the Women's Guild will hold a "Second Best Sale" on Wednesday, April 3 (from 9:00am-1:00pm) and Thursday, April 4 (from 9:00am-1:00pm) to benefit charities, and contribute to the fund to rebuild the church. The sale is happening at St. Mary Magdalen's Family Center, 1213 52nd St. SE, Kentwood.

The church wants to raise the $1.7 million difference between the $6 million it received from insurance and the $7.7 million cost of rebuilding. As of mid-February, the Resurrection Fund balance is about one-third of the way there.

Clinical Neuropsychologist and Director of Children's Services Dr. Mohan Krishnan says it’s helpful for families to share what they’ve learned with each other and develop relationships.
