Back to School Rally at Lighthouse Full Life Center Church

Join Bishop Marvin L. Sapp and Lighthouse Full Life Center Church for the 18th Annual Back to School Rally on Saturday, August 22nd from 2 – 5pm on the academic campus. This is located in Kingdom Square, 600 Burton St. SE in Grand Rapids, MI. This includes students Pre-K through 12th Grade.

During this event, families in the community will receive free backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, clothes, food, various games and much more. Please join the estimated 2000 people who will partake in this important event.

Mark DeJong will lead Vanguard Charter Academy for 2015-2016

Mark DeJong, who holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from St. Cloud State University and a master’s in educational leadership from Bethel University, will serve as the new principal of Vanguard Charter Academy for the 2015-2016 school year. Mark replaces Daryl Vriesenga who retired at the end of this past school year.

Mark is a familiar face around school, having served as assistant principal and academic dean since 2011. He has spent the past 15 years in education in the classroom and leadership. Before moving to Michigan he served as the superintendent and principal of an elementary school in Minnesota along with leading an elementary school in the Dominican Republic as their principal.

Kentwood High School to host Rainbow Run

The Falcon Rainbow Run is scheduled for Sunday, May 31, 2015 at East Kentwood High School, 6230 Kalamazoo Ave SE in Kentwood, MI 49508. Registration at 2:00pm, Race Time 3:00pm.

Start this 5K in White and end in Color. We are promoting unity within the community with a noncompetitive, fun event anyone of any age can enjoy.

Registration Fees:

$30 for Adults

$25 for Firemen/Police/Military

$25 for East Kentwood Athletes

$20 for Kids (12 & under)

If an entire team is interested in participating, there will be a group discount rate-please contact Katelyn Hines at 616-443-9019.

A separate registration form must be filled out for each participant.

Please make checks out to East Kentwood Student Council and mailed to the school.

East Kentwood Music Students Selected for Honors Groups

East Kentwood Music Students Selected for Honors Groups

Congratulations to three East Kentwood High School music students who were chosen to perform at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival.  On May 7-9, 2015, they will join the most talented high school students in Michigan for a three-day extravaganza of master classes, exhibitions, workshops and performances at Western Michigan University.

Derek Bartlett (trombone) and Peter Cripps (bass) were selected for the honors jazz band as a result of outstanding performances at the State Jazz Festival.  The adjudicators nominated several students from throughout the state.   A panel of judges selected the top 20 students for the Honors Jazz Ensemble based on their performances.  Tate Schumacher received an honorable mention on trumpet for the jazz band.  Their jazz band directors are James Ross and James Sawyer.

Britton Schwallier was chosen for the Honors Choir by video audition.

Cameron Gouin Wins Concerto Competition

Cameron Gouin Wins Concerto Competition

Congratulatons to Cameron Gouin on winning the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony Skip Gates Concerto Competition.  The Grand Rapids Youth Symphony holds this contest every year for Youth Symphony and Classical Orchestra.  One student from each group is picked to perform a solo concerto with that group at the May concert in DeVos Performance Hall.  Cameron will be performing Vivaldi's G Major Concerto, first movement, with the Grand Rapids Classical Orchestra.  The public is encouraged to attend to concert at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 3rd, in DeVos Performance Hall, 303 Monroe Ave., NW, Grand Rapids.
