Great Lakes Kite Festival Returns

The State Park in Grand Haven comes to life with incredible kite performances this weekend. Don’t miss the fun!

For the 28th year, the world’s best kite flyers - individuals, pairs & teams will be performing continuously on Saturday, May 21 from 10am – 5pm & Sunday, May 22 from 11am – 5pm.

Kite enthusiast and their families are invited to experience different size kites with amazing capabilities controlled by professional kite handlers. There will also be an Open Flying Field to fly your own kite.

The Kentwood Parks & Recreation invite the community to sample some incredible eats this Thursday.

Two sessions will be held at the Kentwood Activities Center located at 355 48th Street SE, Session l from 4:30pm – 6:00pm & Session II from 6:30pm – 8:00pm.

Tickets in advance are $5.00 & $7.00 at the door with kids 5 & under free.

Free Fishing Weekend Coming Up

For the Valentine’s weekend, it’s a free fishing weekend for residents and out of state visitors.

All fishing license fees are waived for two days in Michigan, February 13 & 14 from 6:00am – 10:00pm. This allows fishing enthusiasts to enjoy the chance to catch all types of fish on both inland and Great Lakes’ waters during their respective open season. Just remember that all regulations still apply.

Kentwood Parks & Recreation invite the community to a fun Saturday of disc golf.

Pre-register at the KPR Dept. located at 355 48th St. or call (616)656-5270 to take part in this fun golf event on Saturday, January 30 at the Old Farm Park located at 2350 Embro St. SE in Kentwood, Michigan. Cost is $20 per person plus a canned food donation to benefit The Pantry.

On-site registration / Check-in at 9:00am & a player meeting is scheduled for 10:00am.

Going on now through March Dekes and Dangles Pond Hockey Tournament

The Dekes & Dangles Pond Hockey Invitational was established in January 2016, and will feature multiple tournaments over the course of the winter months. These tournaments will be 3 vs 3, no goalie, double elimination. Our goal with this event is to make it a winter staple for all those that enjoy hockey, but also enjoy the outdoors. This tournament is played on a 85' x 50' rink, with different brackets playing on specific weekends. The event is held at For the Kidz Gymnastics in Wyoming, Michigan located at 1391 Gezon Parkway, Gezon Pkwy SW, Wyoming, MI 49509.

Available Brackets: A Bracket, B+ Bracket, B Bracket, C Bracket, COED Bracket, Women's Bracket, 30+ Bracket & 40+ Bracket

Kentwood High School to host Rainbow Run

The Falcon Rainbow Run is scheduled for Sunday, May 31, 2015 at East Kentwood High School, 6230 Kalamazoo Ave SE in Kentwood, MI 49508. Registration at 2:00pm, Race Time 3:00pm.

Start this 5K in White and end in Color. We are promoting unity within the community with a noncompetitive, fun event anyone of any age can enjoy.

Registration Fees:

$30 for Adults

$25 for Firemen/Police/Military

$25 for East Kentwood Athletes

$20 for Kids (12 & under)

If an entire team is interested in participating, there will be a group discount rate-please contact Katelyn Hines at 616-443-9019.

A separate registration form must be filled out for each participant.

My Town Kentwood: New park feature opens to public Nov. 25

KENTWOOD, Mich.—A new feature at Northeast Park will officially open to the public Tuesday, Nov. 25.

Community leaders will cut the ribbon to the Northeast Park boardwalk at 10 a.m. The wood-planked walkway cuts through a portion of the park’s 64 acres.

Northeast Park is located at the end of Middleground Drive, off Forest Lake Drive near I-96 in Kentwood.  The park features a playground, basketball court, ball diamond, pavilion and trails.  The park was developed using city millage funds, the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund and private donations.
