Metro Cruise is a big draw

Metro Cruise is a big draw

The 7th Annual 28th Street Metro Cruise is drawing big crowds.  Sunny skies and temperatures in the 80's mean it was perfect weather for cruising 28th Street and admiring classic cars and trucks.

Last year, nearly 300,000 visitors flocked to 28th Street in Wyoming, Kentwood and Cascade to check out the thousands of classic cars.  No word yet on how many people attended the 2011 Metro Cruise.

East Beltline construction causing traffic backups

East Beltline construction causing traffic backups

Lane closures on East Beltline Avenue are causing traffic backups in both directions.  Four miles of the road between I-96 and Lake Eastbrook Boulevard have been under construction since late May.  Crews are repairing concrete joints and upgrading sidewalks with American Disability Act compliant ramps.

The photograph in this article shows the traffic backup today (Saturday) in the southbound lanes.  Construction work is also forcing traffic into one lane in the other direction.  Lanes are closed 9 am to 3 pm and 8 pm to 6 am on weekdays. During the weekends, expect lanes to be closed from 8 pm on Fridays until 6 am on Mondays.

The project is expected to be completed in mid-August.

Breton Construction - Final Update

Breton Construction - Final Update

The construction on Breton appears to be nearing its end, with the road having been completely re-paved from 28th St to Burton. All 4 lanes were opened yesterday to local traffic, with the rest to be opened, according to one of the workers, "Shortly, within a day or two." It looks very smooth, and is having the lines re-painted before it's officially open to all traffic.

Forest Hill Avenue closed due to construction

Forest Hill Avenue closed due to construction

Construction is now underway on Forest Hill Avenue in Grand Rapids Township and Kentwood.

The road closed officially on Tuesday, May 31st. It took construction crews less than a day to start tearing out the road.

Forest Hill Avenue is closed between Cascade Road and Breton Street. Some local traffic is still allowed. However, through traffic is being encouraged to detour using East Paris Ave.

Breton Construction Update

The construction on Breton has shifted lanes. Now, instead of the lanes being condensed to the north bound lanes, they have been condensed to the south bound two. The south bound lanes aren't entirely paved just yet, so the road is slightly recessed. Furthermore, because of the weather, watch out for pieces of traffic barrels in the road. The closed stretch of road runs on Breton from Burton to 28th St, and construction is scheduled to be finished in mid-June.
